Frequently Asked Questions
Between March and October is when our sports grass seed should ideally be planted, with April and September being the best months. Between these months, soil temperatures are usually above 5°C, which is what’s needed for the seeds to germinate. Grass seed shouldn’t be sown when there is still a risk of frost, as frost can kill newly sprouted seedlings.
After sowing grass seed on your sports field, it should be watered daily for the first six weeks. Once the grass is established, regular watering is still recommended, especially in summer when it’s hot and everything is dry. In the playing season, it's common for football pitches to be watered 48 hours before each match.
The amount of grass seed you should sow per square meter will come down to the type of seed you're using and what you’re doing with it - seeding a new pitch or overseeding an existing one.
- For a new pitch, the recommended sowing rate is around 50 g/m².
- For overseeding, the recommended sowing rate is around 20–25 g/m².
Yes, you can. Our sports grass seeds are already blends of different species, but there’s no reason you can’t mix them with another seed mixture. If you’re aiming for specific performance from the grass on your sports area, creating your own custom blend can be a great way to get exactly what you want.
