Frequently Asked Questions

In the UK, wildflower grass seed is best sown in Spring, between March and April, but they can also be sown in September. Spring is usually best as the climate tends to be just right.

For the best results, follow the guidance that comes with your chosen seed mixture, usually on the back of the pack. Sowing times can vary on the species included.

Some will, some won’t – it’ll depend on the variety. Perennials come back year after year, biennials flower every two years, and annuals grow once and then die off.

As wildflowers complete their life cycle, they drop seeds onto the soil. While annuals don’t return themselves, their seeds often do, growing into new plants the following year to take their place.

To plant wildflowers, simply scatter the seeds over the area where you want them to grow. Most species will thrive even in poor soil, but many prefer it well-drained in an area that receives full sun.

Although you can leave a wildflower meadow to grow naturally, over time grass will start to take over, resulting in wildflower species being lost. With that, it’s best to keep the area cut short in the autumn and winter months, though not shorter than 5cm.
